Students Participate in Inktober

October 31st concluded Inktober, an annual art challenge throughout the month of October. The goal is to draw something in ink each day either purely from your imagination or from the daily prompt list. The only rules are to create a drawing in ink and post it to your social media with the hashtags #inktober and #inktober2022. Artists can partake in the Inktober Classic 31 Days of Drawing challenge or the Inktober 52 one drawing a week all year long challenge. The purpose of the challenges is to help artists improve, become more consistent, and create a community of artists. Jake Parker, a professional comic book illustrator, started Inktober in 2009 and the Inktober website began posting official prompt lists in 2016. This year, a handful of Centenary students, including myself, chose to participate.

DAY 21: Bad Dog by senior Jan Gary. Jan is a studio art major at Centenary and a docent at the Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport. Her work was recently showcased at the Norton. This piece was inspired by her friends’ dog, Nate, a rescue who spends his days stealing people’s queso and getting into other kinds of trouble from time to time.

DAY 25: Tempting by sophomore Tarif Islam. Tarif is a biology and neuroscience major at Centenary. For this prompt, he drew inspiration from his beloved family cat, Panda, who enjoys repeatedly jumping on the dining table and sniffing out what is for dinner…every few minutes.

DAY 27: Snack by sophomore Emma Foster. Emma is a studio art and mathematics major at Centenary. Her work was also recently displayed in the Norton Art Gallery. She was inspired by the Spider Donuts in the video game, Undertale.

DAY 28: Camping by senior Remi Miller (me). I am a political science major at Centenary. I was inspired by my own cats at home and the spirit of Halloween, which is my favorite holiday. I have always been curious about cats and the interesting lives they live. I always imagined they are way smarter than we give them credit for and enjoy spending time with other cats.

DAY 28: Camping by sophomore Riana Seidenberg. Riana is a studio art major at Centenary. Her work was also recently displayed in the Norton Art Gallery, where she works as an intern this semester.
