Reflecting on Kyle Comi’s Time as the 1st Sports Section Head
Kylie Comi was born in Rochester, New York and then moved to Texas where he attended middle school and high school. After graduating high school, Kyle wound up at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he became the only male on the Conglomerate Executive Committee. The Conglomerate, spearheaded by Callie Fedd and Remi Miller, had just been reinvented as an online publication. Kyle assumed a position as the Section Head of Sports, and as the “resident male,” he brought with him a calming and laid back energy to the all-female Executive Committee in 2022. Since then, Kyle has continued to bring serenity with an inviting sense of humor, while shedding light on each of the sports teams at Centenary through articles and podcasts, as well as covering exciting moments in sports history, like Serena Williams’ retirement announcement and the 2023 Super Bowl. He also played a significant role in producing sports interview content for the burgeoning Multimedia section of the Conglomerate by sitting to unpack Centenary’s own student athletes’ journeys through gymnastics, baseball, basketball, etc. and where they thought the sports teams were headed in the future.
This May, Kyle graduated with a degree in Communications, so the Conglomerate sat down with him to reflect on his time as a Section Head and discuss what is to come.
How would your friends describe you?
I would hope my friends describe me as fun and caring.
How did you feel about graduating?
I was sad that I was leaving but also excited for the future.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to stay in journalism and try to find sports media work in the Dallas area.
What do you do for fun? Do you have any hobbies?
I love watching Netflix shows and documentaries and doing things outdoors like hiking.
What’s something up can’t live without?
I probably can’t live without my laptop. I literally do everything from watching Netflix to doing my work.
Who do you look up to?
My father because he is very hard working and patient. I’ve rarely ever heard him complain.
You are a member of the Centenary Lacrosse team, so I was wondering how many years you have you played lacrosse? Do you play any other sports?
I started playing lacrosse in the 4th grade. I tried all kinds of sports when I was younger but I played lacrosse and baseball the most consistently.

Montauk, New York is my favorite place. My family used to go there a lot growing up.
Is there anywhere you want to go but haven’t been to yet?
Canada.

I don’t really read many books anymore and I mainly listen to indie rock or pop.
How did you learn to become a good leader for the Conglomerate?
I think through being able to work in many different kinds of teams allowed me to gain some leadership skills, but it’s less about being a leader and more about being a team player in my opinion.
What’s your secret to getting the best sports
stories?
Focus on campus sports because people can read about mainstream sports elsewhere.
Do you have any advice for the next Conglomerate Executive Committee or staff writers?
Write about what you enjoy, it makes it easier.
Which article are you most proud of?
I wrote an article about lacrosse in Finland. I really enjoyed learning about how people felt about the sport that I play in another country.
At twenty-one years old, Kyle has already achieved so much at the Conglomerate, and the staff cannot wait to see what he does next!
