Men’s Soccer 2022
As campus returns to a bustling hub of we’ve-done-this-before students and oh-shucks-did-I-get-my-books first timers, we are bombarded with new classes, events, and club involvement. One thing I certainly don’t recommend missing, however, is the opportunity to support fellow classmates as they head into much anticipated seasons of sports, theater, and choir. You can earn passport points at these events, too!
With that being said, the men’s soccer team has been practicing in the harsh heat to put their best cleat forward in the Fall 2022 season. The preseason will open on Saturday, August 20 at 7:00 pm in the Mayo Field against Jarvis Christian with a second preseason game on Wednesday, August 24 at 6:00 pm against Louisiana College on their field.
The official season, with a total of seventeen matches, begins on Thursday, September 1 at 7:00 pm, when our Gents will take on Dallas Christian College at home on the Mayo Field. Next on the men’s soccer schedule is the Sul Ross State University Lobos on Saturday, September 3 at 7:30 pm on the Mayo Field. Away in LaGrange, Georgia, the Centenary Gents will compete against LaGrange College on Friday, September 9 at 5:00 pm. The Huntingdon College Hawks will host the next match in Montgomery, Alabama, on Saturday, September 10 at 2:00 pm followed by another away game on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00 pm against Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi. The Gents will then return home for two games. On Friday, September 16 at 7:00 pm, the team will take on East Texas Baptist University, and on Sunday, September 18 at 7:30 pm, the men’s soccer team will go foot-to-foot with the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets. To draw in the month of September, the Gents will play a game in Irving, Texas against McMurry University on Friday the 23 at 5:00 pm and a final game on Sunday the 25 against UT Dallas at 3:30 pm.
October opens with three away games. The first, against Colorado College, will take place on Sunday the second at 11:00 am. The second will be on Friday the seventh at 7:30 pm against Texas Lutheran, and the third will play on Sunday the ninth at 1:00 pm against the Southwestern University Pirates in Georgetown, Texas. Centenary will host the University of Dallas soccer team for a match on Friday, October 14 at 7:00 pm and the Austin College Kangaroos on Sunday, October 16 at 12:00 pm. The team will play Schreiner University on Friday, October 21 at 5:00 pm. Senior day (whoop whoop) will be celebrated on Sunday, October 23 on the Mayo Field, where the Gents will challenge the Trinity University Bengal Tigers at 12:00 pm. The final game of the conference season will be against the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, October 29 at 3:00 pm.
Be sure to go out and support our Gents as often as you can! Because starters are not yet set, senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli commented, “I’m excited to see how everyone comes into training and the preseason to see how things may get shaken up.” There are many familiar players to cheer on as well as many new athletes to celebrate, so get out there and make it happen. Lastly, look out for themed crowd events and giveaways announced by the Maroon Mob or other campus organizations.
