Overview of the Sporting Events during Homecoming

There were multiple sporting events for students to enjoy this homecoming. On Friday Men’s basketball held an intrasquad scrimmage along with a series of skills contests before the contest started. An intrasquad scrimmage is a game played between two teams that are made up of the men’s basketball team split in half and competing against each other. Then on Saturday, the day started with a tailgate at eleven before the men’s lacrosse alumni game that started at noon, and then the swim team held their intrasquad meet at 1:00 pm. It was a busy weekend full of activities, food, and Centenary sports that alumni from near and far came to participate in and watch.

The men’s basketball “Maroon Madness” event was held on Friday to start off the weekend of sporting events for homecoming. Before having their intrasquad scrimmage, the team held a series of skills competitions in which some of the players competed. They held a three-point shooting contest followed by a dunk contest where different members of Centenary’s faculty/staff were the judges. It was a crowded event that even got the fans involved in a shooting contest of their own.

Following Maroon Madness, the Centenary lacrosse team held their second annual alumni game at Mayo Field. Many former players, coaches, and pretty much anyone formerly affiliated with Centenary lacrosse showed up to face the current Centenary men’s lacrosse team. Unfortunately not enough alumni ended up coming and playing in the game so a few current players had to fill in and play for the alumni team. It was an entertaining game as our Gents won convincingly with a score of 17-1. Along with the game, at halftime, the winners of the homecoming court were announced. Just as the game was ending the intrasquad swim meet started up. The swim meet was a similar event to the lacrosse alumni game because the swim teams alumni got to participate in the meet as well and compete against their former teammates. Overall, homecoming was a great way for athletes and alumni to reconnect through the sports teams they share.
