A Love Letter To Jordan Fong, The Conglomerate’s New Editor-in-Chief
Writing a feature for a person who deserves the world, both figuratively and literally, can be very tricky. Not tricky in the sense that there’s nothing to talk about, because well, there is so much to talk about when it comes to Jordan Fong. When you write about a person as wonderful as her, you want to be able to do both your piece and her justice. This is my shot at that.
Technically born in Fresno, California, but basically a Shreveport native, Jordan has grown up here all of her life. She attended K-12 school here, developing her passions as a poet, a writer, and an academic. Going to Centenary was an easy choice influenced by the abundance of opportunities in the English Department and the ability to study abroad (peep the photos included in this article to see her in Italy in May). From her freshman to her senior year, Jordan has developed lifelong connections and skills that will follow her through life.
I met Jordan my freshman year. She was this outgoing, witty, and kind person that never made me feel awkward or left out. After becoming more familiar with her, I know that she is an extremely reliable person, in and out of a work atmosphere. Being able to work beside her in classrooms and for The Conglomerate has been an amazing opportunity for me to get to know her on many different levels, including friendship.
Jordan is the kind of person that anybody would feel lucky and amazing to be able to breathe the air that she exists in—joking, but not really. She’s intelligent, caring, generous, amiable, and so much more that my brain cannot begin to explain. Her laugh is infectious, and in passing she always makes sure to say “hi” or “hello” with a beaming smile. Stranger or not, Jordan will always make you feel welcome and seen, which is one of the many things that I admire about her.
Jordan is also one of the most dedicated people I know—and this dedication spans past her responsibilities as a student, influencing every single aspect of her life. She has picked up so many responsibilities and has filled so many roles during her time at Centenary. She stepped up to the plate as Design Chief for The Conglomerate, helping to revive it after the “hiatus” the newspaper took. She then went on to be a Copy Editor, and now will be serving as the Editor-in-Chief for our newspaper. She is also the former president of Red River Poetry Society and will be moving into the Senior Literary Editor position with Pandora after working as an intern for the past two years. On top of these, she is also a part of Chi Omega, Sigma Tau Delta, and Maroon Jackets. To put it simply, Jordan does it all, and she does a damn good job.
As Jordan goes into her senior year, I hope she knows that she is loved, appreciated, and admired by so many people. From her first year at Centenary to her last, she has made a huge impact on every room she has entered, every person she has encountered, and every connection she has made. Everybody should try to be like Jordan. Everybody should get to know Jordan. Everybody should die for Jordan (!!!)
To close this up, I want to take a swing at writing a little haiku poem for our incoming Editor-in-Chief:
Jordan is so cool
She is also really smart
I love you, Jordan
