Conglomerate

Dear Reader,

It is a privilege to introduce the first issue of The Conglomerate for the 2022-2023 school year. This issue brings with it some uniqueness and individuality to previous issues, featuring articles written on the summer adventures of fellow Centenary students.

Days after the end of the Spring 2022 semester, many of us scattered across the globe for May Modules. In this issue, we include reports on the sporting practices of Finland, the delicacies of Spain, and a devoted section on the loveliness of Paris, France. To the Class of 2026, we hope these articles help you navigate the waters of CIP and maybe, in the process, guide you towards a bit of fun.

In addition to those Parisian spotlights, we have included a few features on Editorial Board members from the 2021-2022 school year. While a few of our members are missing highlights, their work this previous year has been unparalleled.

This issue has been a long time in the works. While it is the debut of the 2022-2023 Conglomerate, it functions too, in some ways, as the culmination of the previous semester's hard work. A semester that we, the founding Editorial Board, spent planning, crafting, and stressing over the revival of a long-held Centenary tradition. It has been my privilege to be a part of that.

The Conglomerate, and our devoted staff, have meant a lot to me during my time at Centenary. Since my freshman year, I have watched the paper move through various reiterations, but none so ambitious as our current version. It has been a team effort and one that I was privileged to be a part of. I couldn't be more gratified to leave it in the hands of Emilie Adams, 2022-2023 Editor-in-Chief.

Dear Reader,

It feels almost like a fever dream to introduce myself as your 2022-2023 Editor-in-Chief of the Conglomerate. When I joined the paper last year as the section head for News and Worldview, I felt content with continuing that position going into the future. However, when Callie asked if I would be interested in being Editor-in-Chief, I felt as if I had always wanted to have that position. I knew it was going to be a busy (yet very rewarding) position, but I had no idea how busy. Flash forward to now – the publication for Issue 1 of the 2022-2023 Congo. Getting here was only possible through the amazing people that make up the Congo’s staff and Editorial Board. They have all done their best in preparing this issue and making plans for the paper this upcoming year. And just between us…there are some really exciting things instore.

While I won’t reveal anything, I can proudly introduce the Conglomerate’s 2022-2023 Editorial Board. It is a mix of new and returning names and I could not be more honored to work with a group of individuals. For starters, our section heads are Remi Miller (News & Worldview), Kyle Comi (Sports), LC Moffitt (Life & Times / Opinion), and Hayley Bordelon (Multimedia). Then, there are Cassie Halford (Photography Head), Alaina Owens (Public Relations), and Emily Moreno (Business Assistant). Rounding up the team are Jordan Fong and Reece Maguire (Copy Editors) and Aubrey Salazar (Design Chief). They have all shown their skills in the past and I can not wait for you all to see what we have planned this year.

Since there are great stories waiting for you to read, I’ll wrap things up. The last thing I wish to say is thank you. Thank you to the past readers that enjoy the paper and continue to view each issue. Thank you to the new readers who may be just finding out about the Congo – we welcome you wholeheartedly. Thank you to the staff writers, photographers, editors, etc. that love being a part of this paper. You play such a large role and we are grateful for all of you. Thank you to my Editorial Board for wanting to be more involved, for coming up with fantastic ideas, for keeping each other sane, and for letting me lead you this year. Most importantly, thank you Callie Fedd for everything. You got the Congo running again and made it your own. Thank you for believing in me enough to hand over your baby. I promise to continue and grow the Conglomerate this year (though I know I will still be asking you questions). We wish you nothing but the best in grad school!

Now, with all that said and done, it is my great privilege and honor to introduce the 2022-2023 Conglomerate to you all. Happy readings!
