Here’s to Another Completed Semester

Dear Reader,

Welcome to Issue 10 of The Conglomerate – the last issue of the Fall 2022 semester. I still can’t believe this issue is finally here, and the paper has completed another successful publishing period. This semester has seen The Congo publish a variety of articles, introduce new and old staff to the campus community, and celebrate a momentous birthday. We featured recurring columns – “Centenary’s Backyard” where some favorite relaxation spots out in nature can be found and learned about some strange stories within “Centenary Spooks.” We stayed updated on the Ladies and Gents Athletics and their achievements so far. We also stayed updated with current news, such as the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The campus was sent to a small frenzy when learning that a helpless freshman was left in Paris, as well as our beloved Skeeter actually stalks the freshman class on his free time; it’s safe to say our Misc BS writers really went all out with their creativity and imagination. The High5 Podcast made its debut within the Multimedia section – giving us their opinions on candy bars and people who almost made it to 100, while mainly giving us pure entertainment. Readers also were able to participate in various games, such as crossword puzzles and “Guess the Professor.”

The Conglomerate also celebrated its 100th birthday on October 13, 2022. We created articles focusing on the history on the paper and new techniques that we still use today. We talked to past Editors – in – Chief about their own experiences working on The Congo. The EB and I published the first physical paper since 2019 and shared the occasion with the Centenary community; many students, faculty, and staff were excited to finally hold a copy of the paper and enjoyed learning more about one of Centenary’s longest lasting organizations. As stressful as putting together a physical paper was (I have no idea how past staffs did this every week…), it was the most rewarding issue we have published.

Looking back at this semester and seeing all the amazing things The Congo staff has accomplished, it kind of makes all the headaches, late nights, last minute writings worth it. It has been a rollercoaster of a year so far, and I am so proud of every writer, editor, and producer involved in the paper. They have helped so much in making this volume entertaining and informative. I have gotten to know so many new people who wished to share their ideas and passion within an article. I have seen the skills of well-known Congo writers become sharpened to produce great work. Going beyond the staff, my editorial board has made me feel like nothing but a proud mom and confident Editor-in-Chief. These amazing 10 people dedicate so much to the paper for it to work, and I cannot thank them enough for their time, creativity, patience, and trust. They have helped me grow and I am constantly learning from them.

While I am very excited to publish the last issue of the semester and we can all take a well-deserved break, and I cannot wait to show what The Conglomerate has in store for the Spring 2023 publishing period. As I, and many staff, enter their last semester as Centenary students, we are going to do our best at making it memorable. I refuse to give anything away (yet). So, for now, make note that The Congo will begin publishing again on January 20th. Thank you all for your constant readership and support – it means the world to us here.

With all that said, please enjoy issue 10, the closing issue, of The Conglomerate.

Emilie Adams, Editor-in-Chief
