Local Halloween Events
It’s officially fall and spooky season! The weather has finally gotten the memo and given us just a hint of a chill in the air, so now you can truly partake in the festivities! And don’t you worry, Shreveport has some fun stuff you can do to celebrate autumn and Halloween coming up. We’ll talk about 4 things that you can go to this month, and one that starts this month and extends into November.
Our first local activity is the Fall Fest at DixieMaze Farms. This is currently going and will last until the night of Halloween. On weekdays there will be food vendors, you can take rides on the Pumpkin Express, or you can swing on the Barn Swing, etc. Wednesdays through the weekend the Pumpkin patch is open, and on the weekends there will be haunted attractions. The haunted attractions include the Haunted Trail or the “Trail of Terror” and the “Field of Screams Haunted Maze.” The festivities at DixieMaze Farms have a great variety from family friendly fun to nightmare inducing things that some people call fun. Check it out if you want to go and buy tickets!
Next is an event that is closer to campus. It’s Pumpkin Shine on Line which is more of a smaller outing, but will still get you into the Halloween spirit. This is a family-friendly event hosted at Betty Virginia Park on October 17th starting at 4 pm to “[welcome] the fall season to NWLA.” The park will be filled with thousands of decorated pumpkins showcasing the work of students from many local schools– including Centenary! There will also be a main stage with performances from local school choirs, cheer and dance teams, and other entertainers. This is an event put on by both the SPAR (Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation) and Southfield School. If you want to have some fun and see the spooky little pumpkins that some students from Centenary painted as well as pumpkins from other schools, then head down to Betty Virginia on October 17th!
Speaking of events closer to campus, let’s talk about an event that will happen on campus! Boo at the Bandshell is hosted by Centenary Development and will take place from 4:30-7:00 on Thursday, October 26th. Come see all the different faculty and staff departments dressed up and get yourself some goodies while you vote for who will get the Best of Boo trophy this year!
Lastly, the Louisiana State Fair is coming to Shreveport once again! It opens on October 26th and goes until the 12th of November. Online or at participating Brookshires and Super 1 Foods, you can buy discounted tickets from now until October 25th. The fair includes many different attractions from rides to magic shows to rodeos! Also, you can buy all the unhealthy fair food you want, and while you are waiting to digest the food, you can walk around to see all the animals at the animal show, or look at the exhibits before going back to more rides.
