What’s Up Reader?
Happy April Fool’s Day, dear reader! In honor of this day full of pranks and tricks, and as a marker of being halfway through our publications, The Conglomerate very proudly present our satirical issue! Satire, for those who may not know, is “the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues” (via a lovely Google Search). We here at The Congo will be sticking to the more lighthearted side of satire. Though, if there is underlying subtext within some pieces… well… that’s on the reader.
This issue features various articles that are either pure fiction and satire, or true stories that sound outrageously made up – which one they are will be up for you to decide. We have topics ranging from the newest categories at the Oscars, the 1st of Centenary’s Hunger Games, the backstory of Long Skeeter (a beloved icon in the Misc BS Universe), and so much more. We encourage you to take time and explore the site for any and all fun jokes the Editorial Board and I put together. There may be some that go beyond the articles…
This issue has been an absolute delight to put together. We have had this idea since January, and it feels weird that it’s actually here. Opinion and Satire have always been a part of The Congo’s foundation; older papers featured heavy satire columns and there was even a satire focused paper published, The Granfalloon. Being able to continue this humor and admiration for it with the current EB and start has been simply wonderful. Everyone was able to let a different side of their creativity shine. You didn’t hear this from me, but this may be my favorite issue we’ve published (so far, that is…). We hope you enjoy reading this issue just as much as we did putting it together. So settle down and get started with your reading – it definitely is a real page turner (or page scroller…) Happy readings!
Sincerely
Emilie Adams, Editor-in-Chief
