The Extraordinary Emilie Adams

If one thing can be said of the Conglomerate this year, it’s that we were ambitious. During the 2022-2023 school year, the Conglomerate has done a lot. We’ve published 19 issues, celebrated our centennial by passing out physical copies, published an April fools issue, as well as expanded into the realm of podcasts and crosswords. It’s been a blast, and while that’s not what this article is about, it wouldn’t be right not to acknowledge these many things that, truly, without this person could not have been possible. Strap in dear readers, it’s time to give our praises to the graduating editor in chief, Emilie Adams. Emilie, like many members of EB before and alongside her, wrote many articles for the Conglomerate during her time. From compiling the best (or worst depending) pick up lines to covering the 2022 Winter Olympics with more flair than any sports moderator could offer, Emilie’s articles were always a joy to read whenever they were written. (Seriously, go check out that pick up line article, it’s hilarious). Emilie had the difficult task this year of ultimately deciding how to celebrate the Conglomerate’s anniversary, deciding to take on the ambitious task of printing the paper for the first time in several years, and it was through her determination and dedication that we were able to pass those issues out to you, dear readers, on the actual date of our anniversary to great success. Many of you probably are aware of this but along with being the spectacular Editor in Chief for the Conglomerate, Emilie was an active member of centenary’s campus as an RA for ResLife -shout out to the 2022-23 residents of Kline’s first floor- and could often be seen around campus at various events, especially if it meant supporting her friends. Emilie graduated earlier this May with a double major in English and Communications, as well as a History minor, and if that isn’t dedication to academia I truly don’t know what is. Dedicated, involved, these are words which describe Emilie Adams definitely, but more than that let us discuss Emilie as described by some of her friends in the Conglomerate. When asked to name something that reminded them of Emilie, they said this.“Emilie reminds me of an afternoon. She's very laid back but not sleepy like the evening. The afternoon is also a social hour and like it, Emilie welcomes everyone she meets. Also like the afternoon, she has a long list of things to do still but she doesn’t let it overwhelm her.” says Remi Miller. Similarly, Alaina Owens responded saying “She reminds me of a spring, sunny afternoon.” “Emilie reminds me of sunglasses, warm sunlight, and the way wildflowers smell.” was the response given by Jordan Fong, and Emily Moreno said “she reminds me of a nice big library full of books that you can’t wait to read.” To me, Emilie will always be the sound of laughter when everyone is in on the joke, the movie Legally Blonde, a rainbow peaking through the clouds after a storm. The wonderful thing about Emilie is that she is all of these wonderful things, a scholar, a friend, an afternoon in the sun, and a newspaper head with the creativity and passion to make what seemed impossible or at least improbable at times not only accomplishable but amazing! It is her passion that I admire most about her, Emilie who did not shy away from bringing light to less than fluffy articles, who sought to make this paper a place of truth as well as enjoyment, always encouraging “spice” in the sections. Emilie, who constantly made sure each member of the Conglomerate knew and felt that their work was not only good, but enjoyed and appreciated. Her passion for this newspaper can only be challenged by that for her friends, always encouraging and aiding those around her. Happy trails Emilie, it’s time for your next adventure… we’ll be here, watching and cheering you on. How exciting!
