What’s On at the Robinson - October 2024

Our favorite local movie theatre is always showing new or interesting shows, and as a reminder, you can go for free with your student ID! But what’s even on these days?

Cat Video Fest

Don’t miss out on the final week of this fun cat-focused event! This is a “compilation reel of the latest and best cat videos.” A portion of all ticket proceeds will be donated to Robinson’s Rescue! It’s 1hr 13 minutes long, showing through Oct. 3, and “a joyous communal experience!”

The Substance

A fading celebrity decides to use a black market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself. Starring Demi Moore, directed by Coralie Fargeat, and distributed by Mubi and Metropolitan Filmexport. 2hrs 20 minutes long. Horror/Sci-Fi, rated R, showing through Oct. 3.

Join or Die

A film about why you should join a club… and why the fate of America depends on it. In this feature documentary, follow the half-century story of America’s civic unraveling through the journey of legendary social scientist Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking “Bowling Alone” research into America’s decades-long decline in community connections could hold the answers to our democracy’s present crisis. Join Bob as he explores three urgent civic questions: What makes democracy work? Why is American democracy in crisis? And, most importantly… What can we do about it? 1hr 39 minutes long, Documentary, opens Oct. 4.

Harvey

The story of Elwood P. Dowd who makes friends with a spirit taking the form of a human-sized rabbit named Harvey that only he sees (and a few privileged others on occasion also). After his sister tries to commit him to a mental institution, a comedy of errors ensues. Elwood and Harvey become the catalysts for a family mending its wounds and for romance blossoming in unexpected places. Starring James Stewart, directed by Henry Koster, and distributed by Universal Pictures. This silver screening, showing at 10:30 am on Oct. 15 only, is a movie and luncheon community event. 1hr 44 mins long, Comedy/Fantasy.

The Witches of Eastwick

Three single women in a picturesque Rhode Island village have their wishes granted - at a cost - when a mysterious and flamboyant man arrives in their lives. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon, Cher, and Jack Nicholson, directed by George Miller, and distributed by Warner Bros. 1hr 58 mins long, Comedy, rated R, one time showing at 6 pm on Oct. 22. Tickets must be purchased before 3 pm on the day of the event. They are $29 per person and include dinner alongside the movie. 

We Live in Time

Almut and Tobias are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken. Starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, directed by John Crowley, and distributed by StudioCanal. 1hr 44 mins long, Romance/Comedy, rated R, Opens Oct. 25.

There are also some events occurring at the Robinson this month! There’s wine tasting on Oct. 9 at 6 pm, Halloween themed RFC trivia on Oct. 10 at 6:30 pm, and the Louisiana Film Prise occurs October 17-19.
