From the Archives: Halloween Party
A note from the current News and Worldview Section Head:
Happy Halloween! For this very special and spooky edition of From the Archives, I wanted to showcase what Halloween celebrations looked like on Centenary’s campus 52 years ago. From a Beer and Bicycle Race down Greek Row, to a Halloween Costume Dance in the SUB, there was no shortage of fun Halloween activities in 1971.
A little fun fact about this particular volume: it includes then student Jeff Hendricks’ profile for his candidacy for Freshman Senator (that he would go on to win) in issue number six.

Halloween Party
All Campus Weekend will get underway today at 2 p.m with a Beer ‘n Bicycle Race at fraternity row. Other Halloween treats in store are a UFO presentation, Drew Hunter's Mysterious Happenings, horror movies, a powder puff football game, contests, barbershop and folk singing, and a Saturday night costume dance, with prizes.
The weekend schedule is printed in the calendar on page eight. Rick Clark, Mary Ann Garrett, and other students, along with Student Activities Director Steve Holt, have been energetically whipping up enthusiasm for the weekend.

The following communication appeared mysteriously in the CONGLOMERATE office this week, from artist-maniac Drew Hunter: "Much suspicion has been afoot as to exactly what the "mysterious happenings" will consist of in the SUB Friday night. As organizer of one segment of that evening, I have been the recipient of numerous telephone calls this past week, not to mention personal contacts, inquiring whether or not I will conduct a seance. To those people who want one, I recommend you talk to someone who has experienced one. Also, I realize there are some people who are against a seance being held. To those people, my suggestion is that you may -I said "may" --be sorry you stayed away from whatever will go on in the SUB at 7:30. And to those who do insist on visiting the SUB Friday night, may I wish you an enjoyable evening, a good night's rest, and above all, pleasant dreams.”
