Athlete Spotlight: Anacelia Galeano-Balam
Anacelia is a senior pre-med student here at Centenary studying biology and neuroscience.
What brought you to Centenary?
“The pre-med program and the swim team. The team made me feel at home when I came and visited for the first time.”
What is your favorite thing about being on the swimming team?
“We all work hard together, study together, eat together. We motivate each other. It's nice knowing you’re not alone in what you’re doing.”
How do you feel about the future of swimming at Centenary?
“This year we have a big freshman class, the biggest in a while. It’s exciting to have new faces around and a lot of new talent. I’m really excited to see what they do once the senior class leaves.”
What has shaped you the most being in collegiate athletics for 4 years.
“Balancing school with athletics, pursuing a double major, and swimming. It’s a lot of hours per week, so learning to manage it all has been the biggest thing.”
If you weren’t a swimmer, what sport would you play?
“I’d be a diver.”
What other things do you do on campus?
Chi Omega’s treasurer, Tri Beta’s treasurer, senior senator for SGA, Learning Commons Consultant, pre-health society.
As a student athlete involved in so many other things on campus, how did you learn to balance all of your responsibilities?
“I think I'm still learning. I learned by prioritizing what is really important, remembering that I’m a student first. My teammates and my coaches always respect and believe that academics come first.”
Advice for prospective students interested in swimming at Centenary?
“Just by looking at us, you can see we have a special culture where we. If they were to join, they would have a community to support them not only in their athletic but also academic journey.”
