Men’s and Women’s Soccer Seniors Honored on Senior Day

On Sunday, October 23rd, both men’s and women’s soccer held their senior day playing against Trinty University. Men's soccer honored five seniors on their senior day, including Jaron Patreas, Xavier Noyola-Ramirez, Marco Basteris, Sami Borchalli, and David Barbera. After the men’s game, the women played on their senior day, too. They honored nine graduating seniors:  Daisy Acosta, Sydney Bascom, Yosi Bouslog, Sierra Charles, Karlie Delhommer, Haleigh Gangloff, Avery Gilbert, Ariel Muller, and Celeste Muniz. Unfortunately, both teams lost their competitions against their conference opponent, the Trinity Tigers. Our Gents played first on Sunday and lost 11-0, and our Ladies followed afterward and were unable to secure a win losing 4-0.

During the men’s match, fans and players witnessed an exciting piece of history as Sami Borchalli set the record for most saves in a single game, 17, and officially became the all-time leader in career saves for Centenary’s DIII era. He also held the same record for most saves in a single game with 16 against Trinity before breaking it in his senior day contest. Borchalli is one of the most accomplished and decorated Gents soccer players, and he leads the team from between the posts and plays at a level like no other.

Although neither team won on their senior day, there is still a lot to celebrate about this class of seniors. All of the men’s soccer seniors played important roles in our Gents winning the SCAC conference championship in 2020, with Jaron Patreas hitting the game-winning penalty shot in the championship match and Sami Borchalli making some pivotal saves down the stretch.

Many of our women’s seniors carried out illustrious careers as well. They were part of the record-breaking 2019 season, where the Ladies started out winning their first ten matches in a row while also making it to the semi-final of the SCAC championship. For this senior class Daisy Acosta, Sydney Bascom, and Celeste Muniz led the way for scoring, with Bascom having nine career goals while Acosta and Muniz both have five goals for their career. Bouslog, Gangloff, and Muller held down the defensive side of the ball in their careers, while Delhommer played in goal between the woodworks to help ward off imposing shots.

The outcomes of our Centenary soccer matches didn’t turn out in our favor, but we were still able to celebrate some amazing players and their careers on their senior day. You can find more statistics, game re-caps, and team rosters on Centenary’s athletics page: gocentenary.com.
