50 Cent to Save Shreveport?
Household name 50 Cent has taken a liking to our very own Shreveport. You would be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t at least recognize the rapper's name. A multi-millionaire and rising media business mogul, Curtis Jackson (his legal name), has set his sights on the defunct Millenium Studios.
Jackson met with Shreveport City leadership to negotiate a deal to buy or lease the studios to create a film and television empire. After his initial visit to Shreveport in February, Jackson concluded, “it’s the spark we’ve been looking for.” The media mogul sees nothing but an opportunity for the city and plans to “put together a comprehensive plan that encompasses not only Millenium Studios and Stageworks, but also understanding some other opportunities,” says Shreveport Councilman Alan Jackson.
This could very well be a new breath of life into the City, bringing job opportunities, recognition, and change. In Curtis Jackson’s presentation, he explained that this is not just about making entertainment but also creating opportunities for Shreveport natives. Jackson set his sights on “providing economic development for some of the city’s more impoverished neighborhoods.” This could do a lot for Shreveport’s overall image as well as its profitability.
