Centenary’s Backyard: The Red River National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to the second installment of the Centenary’s Backyard series! This issue, I will be talking about the Bossier access point of the Red River National Wildlife Refuge.
Centenary’s Backyard: Our Classic Betty Virginia
As I welcome you to a new school year, I am also welcoming you to a new series of articles: “Centenary’s Backyard.” The goal of this series is to introduce the nearby city, parish/county, state, and even national parks, refuges, and forests to our readers.
LA Easly Feature
LA Easly is a great friend of mine that I made this year, as well as someone I have always looked up to in class because of her confidence, grace, and ability to express herself so eloquently. She is also the former section head for the Sports section of The Conglomerate.
Our Brilliant [Former] Editor-in-Chief: Callie Fedd
In case you didn’t already know, Callie Fedd has been our amazing Editor-in-chief this year, and I don’t think any of us could have asked for a better person to lead our newspaper. Leading is something that Callie did a lot of in her time at Centenary.
The Wonderful LC Moffitt
One of the most popular and entertaining sections of the Congo is easily the Op/Ed section, and it is largely due to its amazing section head LC Moffitt. The Op/Ed section is truly unique, often featuring a range of articles and the infamous “Misc. BS” that has never failed to disappoint.
Photos of the Photographer
To our brilliant local scientist and photographer, may this stand as a reminder of all of the wonderful things that you—a woman in STEM—can do.
Get To Know Remi Miller
During Remi’s Junior year, she served as the Conglomerate’s 2021-2022 Multimedia Editor. While finding writers for articles was hard enough due to a packed publishing schedule and most students already being heavily involved in clubs, Remi had the hard job of creating a whole new vision for the Congo and finding people to see that vision come to life.
22 Things to Do During Summer ‘22
Congrats! If you’re reading this, you’ve made it through finals, and you are done with the 2021-2022 school year!
Our Flag Means Death is (Already) the Best Show of 2022
It took me two days flat to finish Our Flag Means Death. This is unsurprising, considering that the series clocks in at just over 5 hours (including the “on last episode” recaps and closing credits that bookend each episode).
The R.W. Norton Art Gallery: A Cabinet of Curiosities
This quote by Edgar Degas was the first thing to greet me on the homepage of rwnaf.org, the official website for Shreveport’s own R.W. Norton Art Gallery. Affectionately shortened to just “The Norton” by most, the gallery serves as one of Shreveport’s many illustrious museums.
Bridgerton Season Two in Review
The second season of the hit Netflix show, Bridgerton, was a highly anticipated March 2022 release. Many lovers of the first season and fans of the book series tuned in on the 25th to get their fix of burning romance, predictable (and unpredictable) scandal, and glamourous balls.
M&Ms and their Colored Coatings
Picture it: it is a Tuesday afternoon, and you are heading to your research lab. To demonstrate sampling distributions, the class uses M&Ms and their colored coatings.
Hidden Gem Restaurants: Sunshine Health Market and Cafe
The “Unique Restaurants,” aka “the Hidden Gems “ section, has revealed several Shreveport secrets during its showcase of fun and tasty places to try the next time you want to grab a bite. The Conglomerate has you covered, from going out with friends and playing Trivia at Twisted Root to picking up gyros from Pita De’Novo and plopping on the sofa to watch an entire TV series.
Spring has Sprung: Festival Time!
If you are looking for something fun to do this Spring, the Shreveport-Bossier and surrounding areas offer a plethora of options, especially festivals. All of these events occur outdoors so if our finicky Louisiana weather cooperates you can enjoy a day or two of fun and games in our beautiful spring weather.
The Robinson Film Center: Feature Presentation
Picture this: you’re in your room on a Friday night. You’ve been clicking through Netflix or some other service for a little longer than half an hour and been paying attention to what’s clicking past on the screen for even less time.
Movie Review(s): The Kingsman Series
It may be unfair or ambitious to review a three-part film series in one entry, but I believe that it is important to provide an overarching assemblage of irreverent humor and sobering morbidity in order to fully appreciate the individual film. In other words: I don’t think you can hear about one of the films in the Kingsman Series without acknowledging the role it plays in the Vaughn-assembled cinematic world.
